Bear Grass Charter School was awarded SILVER in the Daily Reflector’s Best of Charter Schools category, which covers a five-county area including Pitt, Beaufort, Martin, Greene and Lenoir counties, making this recognition especially meaningful.

ABOUT BEAR GRASS CHARTER SCHOOL
Our Mission
The mission of Bear Grass Charter School, in partnership with family and community, is to enhance the quality of
life of all students by ensuring they possess the competencies to achieve academic and vocational success in a
technological world. Our collaboration with East Carolina University and other post-secondary institutions will
strengthen the focus on mathematics and science throughout the curriculum.
Our History
Bear Grass School was founded in 1925 as a historical school complex and national historic district located in Bear Grass, NC. The campus included a one-story brick school building, a utility shed, a teacherage (added in 1935), a gymnasium (added in 1942 and completed in 1955), a brick cafeteria and additional high school building (added in 1948), a brick principal's residence (added in 1955), and a "scout hut" (added in 1951).
The school's last year of having grades 1st -12th was in 1969, then transitioned to Bear Grass High School is 1970. The school unfortunately consolidated in 2010.
Bear Grass Charter School was established two years later in 2012, and has been thriving ever since!
